The first overseas Reborn sale was in Washington D.C. in 2001. An old friend of Masayo Kodama, the president of Reborn, offered her house and assembled volunteers for the sale. Reborn Wear and handicrafts were exhibited in the living room. Many friends and neighbors came to this sale. They were enthusiastic about our activities and contributed through purchases and volunteer work as positively as is the case in Japan. We believe that our sales also gave participants an opportunity to learn
more about the kimono and Japanese
culture. We have subsequently held
annual sales there with our next sale
scheduled for 2004.

The first Reborn sale was held in Sep.2002. The sale proceeded in the same manner as in Washington DC. Customers were impressed that the Reborn garments were really unique. Their comments included such statements as, “It’ll be great for our Christmas party.” Other customers were very impressed that these beautifully made garments were actually produced in Reborn training programs in third world countries by initially unskilled

women and children. They were pleased to know that their purchases would directly go to these people in great need and would offer them encouragement to improve their confidence in their ability to achieve self-reliance. We are also having a sale here in September 2003.

In May 2001, the East Hawaii center cooperated with Reborn to hold a sale at a private sailing club in Hilo. The Reborn exhibition coincided with a previously planned fashion show with good results. Here the Reborn clothes were modeled by volunteer students from a local modeling school with good results.

On September 20 and 21, 2003, we had the first Reborn Wear sale in San Francisco. One of local volunteers opened her condo to display Reborn Wear and invited their friends and neighbors. It was very happy to find that the people in San Francisco like our Reborn Wear very much as in the other places in the US. After the sale, we heard that those who purchased wore the ones to dinner parties or opera concerts. Then, even strangers friendly talked to them and praised the color and the unique design!
