Reborn’s head office is in Kyoto, Japan.
Here, 22 volunteers work part-time
putting donated kimonos in order,
untying kimonos for use in training programs, completing clothes students
have made (for example, sewing on buttons, making buttonholes, etc.) and
making samples of Reborn wear for teaching purposes.
As Reborn not only provides instruction in dressmaking but also in handicrafts,
we have divided the volunteers into two groups. One group works on the
Reborn garments. The other is responsible for the handicrafts. Each group
creates new designs and makes merchandise for improving and increasing
the popular products. An accredited dressmaking instructor oversees the
volunteers working on the Reborn garments. They pick out kimonos to match
planned designs and buy thread, fastener and other ancillary materials.
Although we do teach the students how to wash kimonos, sometimes at the
training venues there isn’t any clean water. So the volunteers also wash
and clean all of the kimonos. Prior to any training program, a lot has
to be done in preparation.
